LEATHER LIKE EMBELLIES

After seeing this fabulous technique during the Creative Jumpstart workshops, I knew I wanted to play!!! It seemed easy………….yea a little messy but I love to make a mess!!!

You will need: burlap or loosely woven fabric, joint compound/gesso/spackle, putty knife, ink, scissors or Sizzix to cut.

1.) First you smear the joint compound( i found this makes the end product more flexible) over the fabric or burlap. Make it kinda thick……you can spread it smoothly or leave it uneven.

2.) Let the joint compound dry………either overnight or you can use a heat tool. Be careful not to burn the project. I am patient enough to let it dry overnight.

3.)  After it is dry, you can cut it up into shapes. You can either free hand the shape then cut out with scissors(I use Fiscars Amplify scissors………..they are meant for mixed media).

or you can run it through your Sizzix and cut any shape you want. I placed the burlap side up to cut.

4.) Now you can take the shapes into your hand and crunch it up………….making many distressed lines………….if you use joint compound, it will not fall apart.

5.) Press flat then ink to give it the distressed look…………….using your finger nail……remove tiny sections to reveal the white.

6.) You can cover with Glossy Accents or leave plain, like I did.

7.) If the embellies will be coming in contact……………I cut out a piece of SB paper to place behind the burlap…………….just to be safe.

You have just finished your leather looking embellies……layer them n your LO or card.
